Eldon Christensen "While serving as Chairman of the Board of The Bank of Gibson City, in Gibson City, IL. I was working with engineer, Fred Wesburg, searching for new businesses for our small town. We were considering working with Chrysler Motor Company to build a very low frame chassis for motor homes, instead, since there had been a rise in police car drive aways while the cars were unattended, he suggested designing a parallel to the ignition system. This would be an ignition override with start override protection that would lock the gear shift in place, also locking the shift lever in the park position to prevent theft. After about 3 years and starting out slowly, doing several upgrade versions, I decided to apply for a patent in 1990, and was granted one in May of 1992. Liability was our main concern. Working patiently through all the phases necessary, we felt confident to proceed. This was all done without borrowed money and still being operated as such to this day. Marketing was our next adventure. Police Fleet Shows and exhibiting our unit was suggested by Dennis Tucker, State of Illinois. My son, Jeff Christensen along with Dennis Tucker, who at that time wrote the specs for tall vehicles for State and Local Police agencies in Illinois, attended and exhibited our unit at several Fleet Management shows. Following a show, they were the only exhibitor invited by Ford and GMC, along with their Engineers and Marketing personnel, to discuss the 3 day exhibits. They felt that our unit offered the least amount of exposure from a liability standpoint of the existing competitors. The representatives from both companies gave Jeff a verbal endorsement with the hope we would get a large share of business for our safety device." -Eldon Christensen Eldon founded Secure-Idle in 1992. His goal was simple; create a simple but mechanically complex, reliable and affordable anti-theft device for vehicles. Surrounded with the support of his family, he ventured forward with an idea and design that would become known as "the best anti-theft device on the market" In a very short time, he went from an idea to the full production of the Secure-Idle device. The fruits of his labor have led to a fully tested device that provides unparalleled security for emergency responders worldwide |
